Year 3 trip to Great North Museum

Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic trip to the Great North Museum this week.  Starting with an exciting journey on the Metro into town – some of the boys’ first time! Unperturbed by the rain-swept conditions, the boys spent the morning working as young Howard Carters in exploring the Ancient Egyptian exhibition during the morning session.  The boys were amazed by the preservation of the mummies and the ornate sarcophagi, and loved the journey to the afterlife visual art installation – all proving that their hearts had been kind enough to make it to the fields of wheat beyond!

After a hearty lunch, the boys then took in the other fantastic exhibitions in the museum, including the fossils of dinosaurs and prehistoric beings.  Afterwards, the boys had a look through the Romans exhibition and loved the scale model of Hadrian’s Wall – getting ahead of the game for their topic next year.  Finally, they looked through the habitats of animals both globally and in local Northumberland, before finishing their trip by giving generous donations to support the Great North Museum fund. The boys had a fantastic trip and are all hoping to pester their parents into a return trip in the near future!
