Academic
Developing on their strong educational foundation at the Junior School, the education at our Senior School provide boys with the one of the best secondary school educations available in Newcastle, allowing them the opportunity to succeed in their school life and beyond.
Our students are taught by subject specialist and experts in their field who have chosen specifically to teach boys and understand how to get the best out of them academically.
A full curricular programme of subjects is offered to our boys at each stage of the Senior School. Small class sizes are commonplace and allow for close individual attention to be given to each boy. It is well understood that boys learn in a particular way and we aim to provide a specialist classroom education for boys, where practical activities and a hands-on approach are encouraged. Academic rigour is complemented with a sense of adventure, discovery and fun to maximise the outcomes and the experience of our boys.
Our dedicated teaching staff offer the boys a broad range of subjects. From Year 7, the boys study the core subjects of English, Maths and Science, whilst also completing courses in French, Spanish, Geography, History, Art and Design, Computer Science, Design Technology, Music and Religious Studies. Subject choices are refined in Year 10 as GCSE courses commence, with the addition of Business Studies and curricular PE to the portfolio of subjects on offer.
A physical education programme allows the boys the chance to develop their fitness and athletic ability. In addition, a full calendar of sporting fixtures runs alongside the curricular provision providing ample opportunity for boys to hone their team skills and competitive spirit. Senior boys are given the chance to support the academic progress of younger boys through the in-class peer support scheme, and academic clubs and societies provide numerous opportunities for boys to explore ideas and engage in collective learning experiences.
At Newcastle School for Boys, the importance of educational attainment and a high quality learning journey are paramount.
Careful and data-based target setting to ensure each boy is challenged and stretched.
We can clearly see the progress he is making through regular discussions with the friendly and approachable staff at the School. We feel that all his personal, social and educational needs are catered for and know that the School will always support our son in each and every way that it can.
