Entrance Assessments

Before joining Newcastle School for Boys, each boy is given the opportunity to come into the School and sit our entrance assessments.

Whilst the assessments vary depending on the age of your son, the majority of pupils in Years 3 and above will sit a computer based assessment which measures verbal ability, non-verbal ability and numerical ability, and a written English paper.

Boys joining us for Year 3, 7, 9 and 12 will sit their assessments at our entrance assessment days, which we run early in the spring term each year.

For entry into these year groups for September 2024, the assessment days will be:

Year 3, 7, 9 and 12 application deadline – Friday 8th December 2023

Year 3 assessments- Friday 19th January 2024

Sport scholarship assessments – Friday 19th January 2024

Year 7, 9 and 12 assessments – Saturday 20th January 2024

Year 7 offer day – Friday 1st March

Apply for our Assessment Day

Our entrance assessment days for September 2024 have now taken place.  However should you still wish to apply for a place for your son please contact us at admissions@newcastleschool.co.uk to confirm if a place is available in his year group.  We would then kindly ask you to complete our Application Form and we would look to make alternative assessment arrangements.

Boys wishing to apply for any year group other than 3, 7, 9 or 12 may apply at any point in the school year, should a place be available for that year group. Rather than an assessment day, these pupils will join us in school for a trial day, sitting the appropriate entrance assessment for their age and spending time in class with our current boys. Should you wish to arrange for your son to join us for a trial day, please contact our admissions office on admissions@newcastleschool.co.uk or call 0191 255 9303.

All places are given on a first-come-first-served basis so we advise contact at the earliest possible date to avoid disappointment.

Small class sizes of around 20

My son is extremely happy at NSB and skips into school every morning. He adores his teachers and is very proud of his school. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the school to other parents.
