West Avenue rugby

Our Year 6 boys travelled to Durham School on Friday for their first fixture of the year. The boys got stuck in from the offset with some strong tackling and running. They made fantastic progress around their catching and passing while moving with the highlight being Joshua Hs try. Junhong K was also all over the pitch making tackles and running forward at every opportunity.

They put their experience to use on Wednesday at the Mowden Hall rugby festival. In tough conditions they were able to move the ball well creating lots of opportunities to score. In an afternoon full of magic moments the top two were Heath acting like a brick wall in defence and Thando M carrying the ball incredibly well to score a driving maul.

Last week, our Year 4 has also boys travelled to Durham School and braved the rain in their first matches this year. In the festival, the boys got the opportunity to play a number of teams, make some tackles and score some tries. Some magic moments from the day were the team try, moving the ball from one side to the other, to score in the corner, and Bertie B and Daniel M’s tackling all afternoon.

Year 3 also had their first taste of action on the games field going to the Barnard Castle festival. With 28 teams in attendance, there was lots of opportunity to play. Boys made fantastic progress with their ability to go forward and pass before they got tagged. Max A showed fantastic speed down the wing to score on a number of occasions with Mustafa B proving the most evasive runner.
