Under 15 cricket

The Under 15 cricket team played the first school sports fixture of the year against Durham School on Saturday in a 40 over game which saw Durham bat first and lose three early wickets to be 22 for 3, thanks to a very good opening spell from Archie McL (Year 10) and Henry (Year 10). Fraser (Year 10) then joined the attack and bowled 8 very tidy overs of off-spin.

Henry, Archie and Fraser all finished with two wickets each and Alexander (Year 10) took three stumpings in a superb display of keeping wicket after such a long break. Durham limped along to 111 for 7 before the last three wickets put on 69 runs to finish all out for 180 from 38 overs.

NSB’s run chase was similar to Durham’s innings. Alexander batted beautifully for his 19 runs and, at 111 for 4, we needed 69 from 66 balls with 6 wickets in hand. With Fraser taking control of the run chase we stood a good chance.

Unfortunately we lost Fraser for a well-made 33 and then lost the next 5 wickets for just 29 runs to be all out for 140 from 35 overs. The last ball of our innings was Alfie’s (Year 10) first and only ball he faced as he hit it firmly back at the bowler who touched it before it hit the stumps at the non-strikers end, running out Archie Mac (Year 10).  However, it was great to be back playing again and the boys, as usual, represented the school exceptionally well.
