Under 15 cricket v Barnard Castle

Last Saturday, Year 10 boys travelled to Barnard Castle for a 30-over cricket fixture. Barney batted first and started well with both openers looking comfortable until Tom S made the breakthrough with a slower ball that led to an excellent caught and bowled. He was ably supported by Henry S, who kept building the pressure with a really accurate spell.

Archie M and Tom S were assisted by the fantastic fielding of Will B who took two superb catches. Angus St opened his spell with a maiden and took two excellent wickets in his spell. A further run-out by Tom S and a stumping by Alexander C (pictured) off Angus So helped NSB to bowl out Barnard Castle for 123.

In reply, NSB faced some superb bowling by Barnard Castle who had some real pace and aggression in their attack. Despite losing Tom S for 6 and Angus So for 0, the innings was stabilised by a superb partnership by Alexander C and Archie M, who both took the fight to the fast bowlers. Both boys were dismissed late in the innings, Alexander C for a superb 74. This left Adam R and Woody W at the crease, needing a run a ball from the last 3 overs. With the Barnard Castle bowlers steaming in, both boys found a way to work the ball around the field and, needing 6 from the final over, a well struck 2 from Woody W got the boys over the line with one ball to spare. Both boys showed tremendous courage and resilience to secure a hard fought victory, NSB finishing on 124-4 for a 6 wicket victory.
