Storytellers at the Junior School

On Monday this week, boys in Years 3, 4 and 5 were treated to a visit from “Woman from the Past” for a great day of historical storytelling.

As part of their humanities topic of the Tudors, Year 5 (joined by Year 4) were met by Sabine Johnson, a real Tudor merchant’s wife, in order to hear more about life in the 1500s. This included a lesson in good manners, and information about school life, housing, dress and hygiene – much to the boys’ hilarity and disgust! The boys were also able to handle some Tudor artefacts and dress in traditional dress.

Year 3, who have been studying Ancient Egypt, were visited by an Ancient Egyptian storyteller, who told stories about the gods, followed by a story about some Egyptian burglars who were intent on stealing gold from the Pharaoh. As always, question and answer sessions proved incredibly valuable to all of the boys, allowing them to dig a little deeper and have specific questions about their learning in class answered.
