Under 15 cricket v GSHS
The Under 15 team played George Stephenson High School indoors at South Northumberland Cricket Club on Tuesday and were set a challenging 183 to win.
Dan B, James M, Jack Peacock and Max W were the bowlers to take wickets, aided by some good fielding which saw NSB effect three run outs. The run chase saw Alex B, Arthur B, Anish D, Ally D and Alex L contribute well with the bat only to fall one run short on 182!
Under 14A cricket v MCC Hub Under 15
The Under 14A team had a comfortable victory against the Hub team. Setting the Hub 121 from NSB’s 20 overs thanks to 25 from James S, 22 from Rory N and 18 from Lucas D. In reply, the Hub finished on 79 for 7 after their 20 overs giving NSB a victory by 42 runs. Cole C took 2 for 7, Sam P 2 for 12, Lucas D and George R one wicket each and Josh L a direct hit run out.
Under 14A cricket v Ampleforth Under 15
On Wednesday, the Under 14A team travelled down to the beautiful setting of Ampleforth College to play their Under 15 team.
On a very green and slow pitch, NSB set them 111 from 25 overs thanks mainly to Sam P (45), Lucas D (18) and Josh L (17). Ampleforth were lucky to lose just the one wicket after Peter and Will V’s outstanding opening spell but managed to recover during the middle overs so that the game was very evenly poised with 10 overs left.
NSB were able to get two quick wickets to give the boys a chance but ultimately they didn’t score enough runs or take advantage of the four big chances given to them by their batsman and thus, it came down to the last over with Ampleforth needing just two to win, which they did.
Under 14B cricket v Whitley Bay High School
The Under 14B team had a close fought match with Whitley Bay which saw NSB bat first and post a score of 122 thanks to Jacob R top scoring with 16 and Harvey G retiring on 15 very well made runs. Whitley Bay only lost three wickets on their way to passing the NSB total but the scores at the same stage during much of the innings were very close. One wicket each for Zak M and Jacob R and a Max M run out were the NSB wicket takers.
Under 13 cricket v LMS (county cup)
The Under 13 team set Lindisfarne Middle School a reasonable challenge of 106 to go through to the next round in the county cup thanks to Harry D’s excellent 35. Ed F contributed 25 and Ethan L smashed 18 with three boundaries and one huge six.
Unfortunately, the two LMS openers batted very well. Taking advantage of a chance or two in the field and capitalising on their good fortune, they passed the NSB score without losing a wicket and with five overs still remaining.
Under 12A cricket v LMS (county cup)
The Under 12A team had a ten-wicket win against Lindisfarne Middle School in the first round of the county cup. NSB dismissed LMS for just 39, with two wickets each for Archie F and Adam H and one wicket for Hamzah A, Thomas N and Nicholas S. Hamzah A and George F knocked the runs in just five overs, finishing on 24 not out and 12 not out respectively.
