Pocklington School Under 16 rugby sevens

The Year 11 boys travelled to Pocklington School last week to take part in their sevens tournament. The tournament attracts the best school teams from the north of England.

In game one, NSB met the hosts who were in good form and went into a three-try lead. NSB rallied after half time with a well taken Charlie J try but could not secure and keep the ball long enough to score again.

In game two, the opponents were Mount St. Mary’s. Our boys started superbly, moving the ball well as both Will Sh and Will St crossed for tries. Mount hit back but straight from the second half kick-off, Finlay F charged through four tackles to score before Will Sh rounded off a 26-12 win.

In game three, RGS Newcastle showed some excellent power and pace to win 38-7, despite some good tackling from Patrick C, Will Sh and Craig W. Johnson was again the scorer.

This placed NSB into the plate semi-final against Hymers College. Johnson scored two first half tries as NSB trailed 12-14. Tom F raced away for an early score before Hymers went 21-19 up. Johnson scored in the last minute to make it 24-21 to NSB, but in the last play of the game, NSB lost possession and Hymers scored to make it a 26-24 defeat. The boys can be proud of their spirit and performance against top class opposition.
