By Dan L, Year 13
Last Wednesday I spent some time doing work experience at the Newcastle United Academy.
I got the chance to watch the Under 13s training, as well as seeing all of the other facilities, including the gym. I then had a chance to look through all of the sports science and physiological performance data that they collect for the older players and was able to ask questions, such as what the difference between fitness and match fitness really is, how the fitness coaches and dieticians work with the coaches, whether they feel pressure when the team aren’t performing and how much of their work is tailored to the individual compared to the group’s needs.
Fortunately, I’ve been invited to go back in a week or so to see the Under 23s training which I’m looking forward to.
