Newcastle School for Boys pupils surpass national averages across the board

Year 11 pupils have this morning received an excellent set of GCSE results despite two uncertain and challenging years due to Covid.

The  boys surpassed national averages with at least 50% of the results awarded the top 9 to 7 grades. This is supported by a 97% pass rate across the board. These results are expected to improve further for the School as a few grades are still pending from the exam boards.

The vast majority of boys now remain at the School to join the Sixth Form where they go on to study a range of subjects from the 25 on offer, spanning traditional A levels as well as more business and practically focused courses. The School is also the only independent school in the city to offer Cambridge Technical subjects allowing boys with more vocational and practical interests to study Digital Media and Sport and Physical Activity.

Head, Mr David Tickner, said ‘The challenges these boys have seen over the past few years is significant. They started their GCSE courses remotely and have spent the past two years uncertain whether their GCSE study would be decided by their mocks or the external assessments that they eventually sat. The boys have faced this challenge with great resilience and should be very proud of themselves. We are certainly very proud of their achievements.  I’m also very grateful to our teaching staff who have adapted superbly over the past years to provide our pupils with continuous excellent teaching in the face of the challenges brought by the pandemic.’

We shall be hosting our Senior School open day on Saturday 1st October and Junior School open day on Saturday 24th September. These events are the perfect opportunity to see how your son could benefit in both their academics and individual talents at the school.
