Modern Foreign Languages week

Modern Foreign Languages were very much in focus across the school in the week before half term, with boys across a number of year groups taking part in language-themed events.

Year 11 were able to explore the science of x-rays in a lesson taught in French by Dr. Tamzin Lafford of Ibex Solutions, Year 8 showed off their creative sides in some very entertaining and dramatic short plays, whilst Year 9 learned how languages might help them in the future, thanks to an engaging talk by the Routes into Languages student ambassadors. Year 7 competed keenly in the ‘European Challenge’ to broaden their knowledge of language and culture beyond French and Spanish.

At the Junior School Julien and Sasha from La Petite Crêperie in the Grainger Market paid another visit to give boys in Years 3, 4 and 5 a flavour of French cuisine. Nutella pancakes flew off the bigoz (Breton for cooker) whilst a few sampled Sasha’s homemade speciality – caramel with salted butter. Nutella was the clear Crêpe préférée! All of the boys ordered in French and promised they supported Julien’s favourite team. They also asked him questions about his business.

A wholehearted ‘bravo’ to all the boys for their positive and enthusiastic efforts!
