Mock election

Mock election

The NSB Politics club ran a mock election in school before the festive break.

The key policies of each party were presented to the School. The boys representing each party were not necessarily putting forward their own views, but more importantly putting forward a range of policies for the other boys to make their judgement on.

Well done to those boys who took the opportunity to develop their public speaking by representing the following parties:

Jacob B (Labour), Daniel H (Green), Alexander H (Scottish National), Freddie L (Conservative), James S (Brexit), Isaac W (Liberal Democrat).

After a short period of reflection, the pupil body headed to their polling stations according to their house. There were four constituencies up for election: Aldridge, Ascham, Mavor and Newlands. Each polling station was staffed by the heads of houses.

The votes were counted, recounted and then verified by the Electoral Commissioner, Oliver L. The result was announced in final assembly – the Conservative Party was the overall winner. There was a real sense of community and engagement in the event with all boys actively participating and learning about the election process and responsibilities they have as members of a democracy. The boys will be analysing the results as part of their work within Politics club in the New Year.

Thank you to all the boys who supported the election by representing the parties and running polling stations.
