Lindisfarne Plate and Monkton Stadium

Boys in Years 6 and 8 competed at the annual Lindisfarne Plate at Monkton Stadium this week competing against seven other North East Independent Schools. Overall, NSB won the B team event, the Year 6s won the Junior Cup, Year 8s came a respectable third. This meant that NSB came second in the overall standings. There were some outstanding individual performances, with many school records being broken in the process. George Riley and Max Metcalfe both won the 400m and 800m A and B races, with George breaking the School record in both events. Max Metcalfe continued his good form this Summer by winning the long jump and breaking the school record in the process with a jump 4m 11cm. Lewis Robertson and Will Shearer both won the 75m hurdles with both setting new school records for the event. Special mention must go to Jack Heppenstall who stepped in at the last moment for the B team hurdle event ended up winning the race. Phil D’Agostino came third in the high jump clearing a height of 1m 25cm, again breaking another school record.

With only a few days for recovery, the Year 6s were back in action at the Newcastle City Athletics Championships. NSB came second overall in the team standings with Max Metcalfe (800m), James Harper (80m) Alex Rye (long jump) and Will Varley (ball throw) all qualifying for the Northumberland County Championships at Gateshead Stadium on Saturday 28th June where they will be representing Newcastle City.  Well done to all boys who have represented the school in the athletics this season.
