Year 3 and Year 6 boys enjoying humanities

Last week was exciting in humanities at the Junior School.

Year 6 have been looking at the social and cultural importance of Anglo-Saxon jewellery. The class watched a video about a brooch that was found in a hoard in Sutton and  discovered that the woman who wore the impressive silver brooch also had a curse written on the back of it to prevent potential thieves.

Inspired by this, Year 6 created their own brooches based on common Anglo-Saxon designs and wrote their own terrifying Anglo-Saxon curses in runes on them.

In Year 3, the boys have been exploring the differences between Ancient Egyptian and Ancient British civilisations.

They constructed a timeline of both countries and compared significant events from around 7000 BC up until around 50 BC. The boys were surprised to discover how different both countries developed, particularly in the development of building techniques and written language. Some very interesting observations were made.

Well done to Year 3 and Year 6 for their excellent work.
