Junior Great North Run
Congratulations to Tom S (Year 11, pictured) and Harry H (Year 8) who finished third and second in their respective age categories. Tom wrote about his experience running and you can read more about it below.
It felt great to be racing again after all the lockdown restrictions. The Junior Great North run has always been one of my favourite races. My race was an under-17 race and I knew it would be a fast one. I was competing against boys a year older than me and I was determined to do well.
The race started by the swing bridge and then turned right along Pipewellgate Road. I made a good start and was well positioned in the leading pack. As we turned around at the halfway point the pack started to separate, I started my sprint just before we ran across the Millennium bridge and in the end I finished 3rd.
The crowds were fantastic and there were loads of people cheering me on every step of the way. My time was 12:31 for 4K – 5 seconds behind the winner. I gave it my all and I don’t have any regrets.
Next year is my last year as a junior and I am thrilled by the thought of doing the half marathon in two years’ time.
