Our Year 11 GCSE Music class were treated to a short workshop on the Tabla drums by our resident expert, Jagraj in Year 9.
Jagraj demonstrated the various playing techniques to the boys and explained his experiences of learning the instrument through the gharana system (master-pupil teaching using the oral tradition). The Year 11 class all had a chance to learn some traditional talas (rhythms) and admitted that the playing technique was much harder than it looked.
This was a great experience for the boys, bringing their study of Indian classical music to life in an interactive way. Thank you, Jagraj!
