HMC Under 14 Durham rugby 7s

The Under 14 rugby team travelled to Durham on Tuesday for the prestigious HMC rugby 7s.

In the first game, our boys took on Ampleforth College. Despite some strong attack and an exceptional team try completed by Angus S, NSB went down 20-14.

In the second game, the boys took on the tournament favourites, Sedbergh School. After an outstanding first half the boys led 12-7 with tries from Hadyn C and Henry S. Unfortunately, the boys couldn’t maintain momentum and Sedbergh ran out 24-12 winners.

In a fantastic final group game, NSB scored three superb tries from Hadyn C (2) and Seth O, but were defeated 35-19 by Dame Allan’s School. This put the boys into the plate semi-final where they overcame Birkdale 38-14, with tries coming from William B, Hayden C (2), Archie M, Seth O and Henry S.

The final was against the host, Durham School. NSB started really well with two tries from Hyaden C. However, Durham came back to lead 17-12 in the final minute. A try from Harry D levelled the scores and sent the final into sudden death. William B’s kick-off was superb and Henry S held up the Durham catcher to force an NSB scrum. From the scrum, William B dummied his way over for an outstanding victory.

Well done to the whole squad who made fantastic progress throughout the tournament.
