Football tour to Cologne
As the Spring term ended, 26 boys from Years 5 and 6 departed for the Junior School’s second sports tour. The five-night trip to Cologne saw boys enjoy a fantastic range of experiences.
The first day on tour was spent travelling by ferry and then through Holland to get to the FC Koln stadium, with the day ending with the first round of fixtures against a local side in Cologne, Ford Niehl.
The second day started with a training session, followed by a trip to the Sport and Olympic Museum, before taking in an amazing Bundesliga match between Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig.
The next day, the boys played their second and final match in the glorious sunshine in Dusseldorf against FC Dusseldorf West. Again, both teams recorded a victory but, undoubtedly, the ‘moment of the tour’ occurred thanks to a James B goal that sparked a small pitch invasion from the entire tour party. The fun continued as the group spent the afternoon at a theme park enjoying many different forms of sugar.
The last day took the tour into the city to visit the famous cathedral. After a tiring journey up many stairs, all the boys made it to the top of the spire. Overall, it was an amazing six days away with the boys learning lots about each other and character-building, all while enjoying amazing sporting and cultural experiences. The boys were a credit to the School and themselves throughout.
