ESFA PlayStation Small Schools Cup winners
On Wednesday the Year 10 football team were crowned ESFA PlayStation Small Schools Cup winners after a 3-1 win over St. Bernard’s Catholic Grammar School at Madejski Stadium, Reading.
In the first half NSB dominated the play and looked the most likely of the two teams, especially from dead ball situations. The deadlock was broken from a wonderful, weighted ball over the top of the defence for Bobby J who volleyed the ball home. The second half could not have started any better for the boys as the lead was doubled through an own goal after some great play down the left hand side. After the second goal, St. Bernard’s dominated the game and looked dangerous. They got a goal back after a long ball over the top catching out NSB’s defence for the first time in the game.
The boys started to struggle and panic on the ball. However, they showed real character, never gave up and their efforts were rewarded when Will V took a quick throw in to Oliver M, who again played a perfect ball for Lucas d to make the game safe at 3-1.
This was extremely well-deserved for a very special team who have played some excellent football all season. The character they showed in the second half, when things were not going their way, was a perfect example of the type of boys we are looking to develop at the School and everyone should be very proud of them.
Special mention must go to the man of the match, Oliver M, who was awarded a PlayStation after his two assists and his overall play throughout the final.
Congratulations to Phil D, Lucas d, Cole C, Oliver F, James H, William H, Bobby J, Max M, Oliver M, Zak M, Rory N, Miles P, George R, Dylan R, Jake S and Will V.
