DofE silver qualifying expedition

Swaledale starts near Muker and ends at Richmond. The six DofE Silver walkers entered the dale from Tan Hill Inn a few miles north of Muker and on the way they had to climb over a big hill called Robert’s Seat. Miss Buxton Collins said they corrected a small detour and reached the first campsite at Usha Gap in good time. It rained on and off all day and the next day, when they headed east along the River Swale to the second campsite near Reeth. They did not get lost once and continued to maintain a good pace. Mountain leader and expedition supervisor, Allan Moore could not believe how quickly they completed the final 15 km on the third day, which included a torturous climb from Reeth onto Fremington Edge. He said they were one of the best DofE groups that he had worked with and praised their campcraft, attitude and teamwork.

Many thanks to Allan and also to Miss Buxton Collins and Mr Drax for supporting the expedition. All six participants passed their silver expedition section and four of them have signed up for the gold expeditions in the Autumn term.
