Digital author event with Alex Wheatle

Before half term, to celebrate and highlight Black History Month, Year 8 enjoyed taking part in a digital author event with Alex Wheatle MBE, provided by Seven Stories and First Class Supply.

Alex talked about his fantastic new book, Cane Warriors, a gripping and unforgettable book which follows the true story of Tacky’s War on British Slavers in Jamaica, 1760. Alex completed a very interesting and insightful Q&A session about his life, what inspires him to write and the research behind his brilliant new book. Boys were awarded a signed copy of the book for their involvement and their fantastic questions.

A copy of Cane Warriors is available to read from the library for boys in Year 8 upwards. Also, a drama about Alex Wheatle’s life will be broadcast on BBC1 on 6th December as part of a five part anthology series directed by Academy Award winning director Steve McQueen, called Small Axe. The series focuses on London’s West Indian community between the 1960s and the 1980s. You can find out more here.
