Day One/Two

Pretoria University rugby training

Our senior rugby players are now enjoying the excellent facilities and accommodation of Pretoria’s High Performance Centre (HPC) where they have completed their first training session under lights this evening.  Coach Lee Hogarth was delighted with the boys saying, “Attitude, workrate and creativity were in abundance and the boys are raring to go in their first games.”

Arriving after a long overnight flight from Heathrow to Johannesburg, the boys transferred the short distance to Pretoria and the university’s HPC.  It is the leading sport science and training facility in South Africa and contains extensive elite training and playing facilities for rugby, cricket, tennis, athletics and a number of other sports.

This afternoon the boys had an access all areas tour of the Loftus Versfeld stadium – home to the Blue Bulls who compete in the Currie Cup and Super 15.  Our boys were able to visit the changing rooms, media areas and walk on the pitch before heading to the club’s adjacent training ground and gym where they had a chance to meet some of the Bulls’ players and staff.

The squad will train again tomorrow morning finalising their preparations for their first fixtures on Wednesday afternoon at Rustenburg High School.
