Dallas 2024
In April, pupils in Year 9 and 10, accompanied by three teachers, embarked on a long-haul expedition to Dallas, Texas. The journey began with a coach ride to London Heathrow, followed by a flight aboard an A380 to Dallas Fort Worth, despite a slight delay.
Upon arrival and a good night’s rest, our first day was packed with historical insights. We visited The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, the site of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in 1963. The experience continued in Dealey Plaza itself, where we traced the route of the fateful presidential motorcade. The afternoon was spent at the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum, an institution renowned for its extensive and thought-provoking exhibits.
The highlight of our trip was the anticipated total solar eclipse. Despite the uncertain weather and overcast skies, we were briefed on what to expect and the necessary safety measures by the editor of Astronomy Magazine. Fortunately, just before the eclipse reached totality, the clouds parted, granting us a spectacular view. Post-eclipse, we explored the Frontiers of Flight Museum and even enjoyed an impromptu game of American Football.
Our trip wasn’t dampened by the weather, even as rain showers visited Dallas. We embraced the local culture by attending an ice hockey game, cheering as the Dallas Stars triumphed over the Buffalo Sabres.
The journey continued to Fort Worth, where we witnessed a cattle drive at the historic Fort Worth Stockyards, and then to Houston, where relaxation and swimming awaited at our hotel. Before our return, we explored Space Center Houston, delving into the history and future of space exploration.
Not only was this year’s trip to Dallas a travel experience but also a testament to the growth and values we cherish as a school community.
