Aims of the course
- This A level equivalent gives you the opportunity to study both the theoretical and practical aspects of nutrition, food, and food preparation.
- Develop your knowledge and understanding of the composition of foods and of the food production industries.
- Continue to improve your practical skills and relate to healthy eating and the science of food.
Course content
Unit 1: Meeting Nutritional Needs of Specific Groups
Unit 2: Ensuring Food is Safe to Eat
Unit 3: Experimenting to Solve Food Production Problems (Optional)
Unit 4 Current Issues in Food Science and Nutrition (Optional)
Assessment
In the first year, the students will work on Unit 1 and 2. Unit 1 will be assessed by both coursework and an examination. Unit 2 will be assessed by an examination and coursework – to include practical work. Unit 3 or 4 will be studied in U6 as a coursework module.
Career opportunities
The Diploma provides a suitable foundation for the study of Food Science, Food Marketing, Food and Nutrition, Catering or any health related fields, such as Nursing or Dietetics at University.
