Congratulations to all of the boys from NSB and girls from Westfield School who took part in our annual Choral Day event. This year’s event was particularly special as it was the biggest to date with over 120 young people taking part.
The day consisted of numerous warm-ups and rehearsals as a group and in respective parts (soprano, alto, tenor and bass). The pupils worked together for the first time, against the clock, to prepare a concert for parents at 3.00pm. This year’s programme included An Irish Blessing, I’m A Believer, Ghostbusters and a 15-minute medley of songs from Les Misérables. The audience didn’t escape, however, as they were encouraged to join in with the performance.
For the fifth time, the day was led by Len Young. Len is such an inspirational choral leader and we are once again most grateful for all of his expertise and hard work to pull it all together. Len writes and arranges music, runs many local singing groups and also works with Opera North. Having been a music teacher for many years, he has the perfect approach to working with young people and getting the best out of them.
The whole day was a fantastic opportunity to sing as part of a large ensemble and has hopefully continued to promote to our boys the many virtues and joys of singing.
