Choral Day 2025

Congratulations to all pupils from both the Junior and Senior School who took part in our annual Choral Day on Tuesday. This year we were joined by pupils from Kings Priory School, Moorside Primary School and Westfield School. The combined choir of around 80 young people was expertly guided through the repertoire by well-known local musician, Len Young, supported by staff from all of the participating schools.

After some warm-ups, the choir split into four groups for sectional rehearsals, racing against the clock in preparation for a concert at 3.00pm in front of family and friends, to share the progress of the day. The concert had a bit of an international theme with pieces including America (from West Side Story), Tzena Tzena (an Israeli folk song), Waters of Tyne (a Geordie folk song), Junkanoo (a Caribbean round) and a rousing finale of the Miley Cyrus’ smash hit, The Climb. Len likes to encourage audience participation, and there was some great singing and foot stamping from the audience in places!

It was a fantastic day of collaboration with other schools, sharing the joy music can bring, and it has hopefully ignited a spark of interest in group singing and all the magic it brings. Thank you to Len for giving up his time and to all of the collaborating schools who made it such an enjoyable occasion.
