Athletics success

It’s been a busy week of track and field at the Senior School with two events taking place. Tuesday saw the Northumberland round of the English Schools athletics track and field cup and Thursday was the Newcastle City championships, both held at Gateshead Stadium. On Tuesday, the Years 7 and 8 team and the Years 9 and 10 team were in action. There were some outstanding performances, as well as boys making huge progress in events they were competing in for the first time. Oliver H (Year 10) got the event off to a great start with an outstanding win in the Year 10 hurdles. Tobi A followed this up with a win in the 100m and Hector A was runner-up in the 200m. In Year 8, Billy C did outstandingly well to win the high jump and Callum C threw a personal best in the shot.

On Thursday a great number of boys performed superbly and qualified to represent Newcastle City in the county championships later this term. These included a number of boys competing in their event for the first time. Outstanding performances on the day included Callum C qualifying in both discus and shot, Haseeb A winning Year 9 discus, Toby S winning Year 9 100m and hurdles, Tobi A winning Year 10 100m, Thomas C winning Year 10 discus, Sam E winning Year 10 javelin and Hector A winning Year 10 hurdles and long jump in a new NSB record of 5.42m. Well done to the whole squad.
