U9 football v RGS
In what was an extremely successful morning of football, the Under 9 teams achieved a clean sweep of victories over their RGS counterparts. Dominant throughout, the A team won 3-0 through an Alexander Charnley brace (two excellently-taken goals from distance) and a third from Fraser Robertson. Strong wing-play from Archie McLean – always willing to take on his opponent – and excellent box-to-box dynamism from Angus Southern meant that NSB were always on the front foot. Cameron Macpherson’s best game of the season alongside star man Tom Katory – filling in expertly in an unfamiliar defensive role – meant that Henry Scott was largely unworked, though he made some excellent saves when called upon. An excellent win to finish an undefeated season!
In the B team game, fitness and skill proved key as, again, NSB dominated. Jemaine Paylor kept a clean sheet in goal and was supported with some excellent defence from Thomas Bennett-Cowell and Shivam Malhotra. Excellent link-up play from the midfield of Feras Alqattan, Alex Graham and Max Walker created a host of chances, and the all-round play of Adam Riddell was a constant thorn in the RGS sides. Eventually, NSB ran out 2-0 winners thanks to man-of-the-match Feras Alqattan, scoring both goals.
The C-team played against two RGS sides, winning the first 7-1, excellently led by their captain Archie Macnaughton. Goals from Hadyn Cartmell (2) Gabe Harwood, Gabriel Moore, and hat-trick hero, Ashwin Smith dominated their RGS counterparts, whilst William Eckford, Harjeeven Ladhar and Billy Paisley each played their best games of the season, fighting hard for the win. RGS’ next team put some pressure on the boys due to their freshness, but NSB ran out aggregate 7-4 winners.
In a final, friendly-style, mixed team match, NSB further proved their dominance by winning 7-2, with superb shooting from distance leading to a McLean hat-trick. Robertson also scored a 20-yard screamer, whilst Riddell proved his finishing prowess with a hat-trick of his own. Overall, an excellent performance!
