USA Science Visit 2015
Day 2: Disney’s Magic Kingdom (Saturday 27 June)
After waking up and having an early breakfast we headed off to Disney’s Magic Kingdom. We met Rebecca, our YES (Youth Education Service) programme tour guide. Today’s programme was different than the first, as today’s programme involved physics, focusing on the properties of motion. This wasn’t the typical classroom style of study; this incorporated analysing three variations of roller coaster models. We used the three models to see which one needed the least amount of kinetic energy to carry a marble the full length of a track. The models consisted of a straight forward hill like track, a narrow decline leading into a sharp curve and a traditional full loop. To analyse the experiment even further we experienced the Space Mountain ride, this was a thrilling, adventurous ride which had space like environments, and this ride was in the dark, with the exception of the glistening stars.
After we parted ways with Rebecca we had 7 hours of free time to experience the magical parades where we saw Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Rapunzel and Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs. We also enjoyed the opportunity to go on more of Disney’s famous rides.
