Under 9A cricket v The Chorister School

The Under 9As played a hard-fought game against a strong Choristers side this Tuesday at the picturesque Durham City Cricket Club.  Losing the toss and being put in to bat, NSB batted in a controlled and structured manner, losing only 8 wickets in their 15 overs whilst posting a score of 265.  The highlights of the batting innings were Louis S hitting five fours in a row off the sixth over of the day, and Harry B and Sam E’s intelligent running between the wickets that saw them add 23 from their three overs.

In return, NSB held the opening six batsmen to a combined total of 11 runs from their first nine overs, Louis the pick of the bowlers with two maidens and a wicket from his two overs.  Choristers, however, had back-loaded their order and began scoring boundaries towards the end of their innings, despite an excellent yorker with his first ball from captain Sam to take their lead batsmen’s middle stump.  Needing 17 off the last over to win, Choristers scored 1, 4, 4, 4, 2 from the first five deliveries, putting them one behind NSB’s score with one ball left.  Debutant Yureesh P bowled a lovely delivery that kept straight, the batsmen went for the slog over midwicket but only succeeded in finding Harry, who is always a safe pair of hands.
