1st XV win County Cup for first time
The 1st XV capped an excellent season with a convincing win in the County Cup final. In front of a large crowd at Druid Park, the NSB boys played some superb Rugby to defeat King Edward’s Morpeth 59-3.
With forwards and backs playing with huge intensity NSB scored some outstanding tries at regular intervals but at no time dampened the enthusiasm of a spirited KEVI team. Matt C was first to score after taking a Joe N pass before breaking three tackles to score. The same pair teamed up shortly afterwards as Joe d around Matt dive over. Tenacious flanker Matthew A capitalised on a loose KEVI breakdown to turn the ball over and score. Shortly afterwards a superb move was executed by the backs, William Mc providing the scoring pass for Tom Pa. Ever dangerous full back Jack A got in on the act next, using his pace and footwork to outwit the defence and dive over in the corner. The final try of the half was a superb team try from the kick off which ended up with centre Joe C sprinting 50m to score.
The second half started well, with England scrum half Ruaridh D beating three defenders to score and then WIlliam raced away after a neat chip and chase. The final try was scored by centre Cameron F-N after some superb handling. Cameron also added four conversions and Joe C 3. A fantastic result for Dan G’s team and an emotional end to NSB Rugby for many of these boys with arguably their best ever performance.
