The 1st XV rugby team took on The King’s School, Grantham in the quarter-final of the National Vase at Blaydon RFC. After a tense start, three quickfire tries tipped the game in NSB’s favour, the first coming from Ewan Goodridge following a series of forward drives. William Hodgson scored the second after dummying his way through the right side of the Grantham defence.
Hodgson was also involved shortly afterwards as he fed Lewis Robertson, who sped down the wing and passed inside to flying second row William Varley, who romped under the posts.
Grantham pulled a try back before half time and scored first in the second half. However, NSB held their nerve and, following long spells of resolute defence, Cole Cartmell crashed over to secure a famous 26-12 win.
The boys will play the semi-final at Allianz Park, home of Saracens, on Wednesday 4th March. Well done to the whole squad.
