1st XV march on to round 5 of the National Schools Vase
By Tom F, Year 13
The 1st XV overcome a very physical Ripon Grammar School side with a hard fought 17-10 victory that takes them through to the last 16 of the National Schools Vase.
The boys started brightly with a bit of Harvey M brilliance charging from his own 22 to dot down in the corner. After that, NSB were starved of possession by Ripon’s tight forward play. However, some Charlie J magic with a chip and chase to himself extended NSB’s lead. Charlie converted his own try to make the lead 12-0. Some sloppy play from NSB straight from the restart allowed Ripon to score in the corner to make the half time score 12-5.
After half time, Ripon really piled on the pressure. NSB’s defence stood strong for a gruelling ten minutes with some excellent defence from the front five in particular Robbie B. However, Ripon’s pressure finally told with their captain diving over to score, taking the score to 12-10. Patrick C topped off NSB’s superb pressure towards the end of the second half on Ripon’s try line by forcing his way over off the back of the scrum. NSB managed to retain the ball for the remainder of the game to hang on for 17-10 victory.
