1st XI v MCC Success
The 1st XI played the MCC in a 40-over fixture at South Northumberland Cricket Club on a beautiful day and, as tradition dictates, the MCC batted first and got off to a flyer smashing 50 from the first six overs. Fortunately, we were able to take a wicket to stem the flow and then our spinners started to take back some control. However, at 121 for one with still another 20 overs to go, it was looking ominous.
But, this team just never knows when to give up and took the next nine wickets for just 100 runs with wickets shared between Archie F, Ted F, Fraser R, Henry S and Toby S. Ed F also bowled very well with his eight overs of off-spin costing only 26 runs.
In reply, we were 16 for two before Sam Ewart joined Ed and together they put on 106 runs for the third wicket before Ed was out for 61. Adam H joined Sam and they ticked along well putting on a further 92 for the fourth wicket before Sam was caught on the boundary for a brilliant 95. Adam was out soon after for 39 and then a mini-collapse left us needing five runs from 12 balls with just three wickets in hand. Despite this, we were able to win, for the second year in a row, relatively comfortably with a boundary from Ted with an over to spare.
