The Under 13s, representing Northumberland, played Sedbergh School, the Cumbrian representatives, in the second round of the national Bunbury Cup indoors at South Northumberland Cricket Club. Batting first, NSB posted 201 for 3 thanks to Oliver F batting all the way through the 30 overs to finish on 94 not out on a foot that was broken only a few weeks ago. He was very well supported by Ed F who made an unbeaten 43 off only 24 balls. Ed only came in with 7 overs to go and picked up the tempo of the game superbly with decisive calling and hitting the gaps. Will V(42) also batted very well as he helped steady the innings after an early loss. Sedbergh made a steady start and were starting to edge ahead in the run rate until one of the key moments of game came thanks to a terrific direct hit run out from James H. From then on it was a steady procession of wickets thanks to dynamic fielding and good bowling which reduced Sedbergh to 49 for 6. Both openers, Harper and Varley bowled very well in partnership and were well supported by NSB’s two first change bowlers, Ed F and George R. The most pleasing aspect was the boys’ fielding and subsequently there were 5 run outs (James H, Daniel H, Joshua L, Lewis R and Will V). Cole C, Phil D, Josh L and Lewis R also bowled well with Cole getting the last wicket caught behind to leave Sedbergh 130 all out and 71 runs short.
The boys now progress to the north of England final v Manchester Grammar School.
