1st XV retain Hadrian Cup
The 1st XV team travelled to Austin Friars School in Carlisle to play their annual match for the Hadrian Cup. Missing some key players through injury, the boys showed outstanding adaptability and resilience to retain the trophy with a 34-19 win.
NSB started well, guided up field through some excellent kicking from Haydon M. The forwards were dominant in the maul and this bore the first two tries from Bruce D and Alfie S. Scott added a second after a barnstorming run with Mackenzie B feeding Hadyn C for the fourth. NSB were flying at 24-0 but Austin Friars had a period of dominance before half time and brought the score back to 24-19.
The second half was managed excellently by NSB through some excellent decision making and outstanding defence. Debutant Alexander C scored the first of the second half tries as he burst through a gap and carried three defenders over the line. Bruce completed the scoring, picking a superb line from stand in captain Matthew H. It was Matthew who stepped up to receive the Hadrian Cup from Austin Friars Director of Sport Jeremy Tiffin at the end of another excellent encounter played in great spirit.
