Newcastle School for Boys pupils secure exciting next steps

Pupils of Newcastle School for Boys today embark on a wide range of exciting next steps, following receipt of this morning’s post-16 exam results.

The students have successfully gained places on diverse range of university courses from Physics with Astrophysics, Law and Politics at prestigious Russell Group universities, to increasingly popular subjects such as Filmmaking, Marketing and Management and Sports Coaching at the local universities, Newcastle University and Northumbria as well as those further afield.

The sixth form curriculum at Newcastle School for Boys places great focus on supporting its pupils in their own individual pathways, whatever their interests may be. Whilst many pupils still wish to pursue traditional academic courses, others’ passions lie in more vocational and creative routes. The School supports this through its offer of Cambridge Technical courses in its curriculum, as well as an enrichment programme that affords pupils work experience opportunities, sports coaching and finance qualifications, as well as the very popular Extended Qualification Programme.

Overall, in a year when nationally there were fewer top grades, at NSB nearly half (47.8%) of all grades were awarded at A* to B and over three-quarters (76.1%) at A* to C. Two-thirds of results (65%) in vocational or applied courses were at Distinction*-Distinction level.

Mr David Tickner, Executive Head of Newcastle School for Boys, said of the results ‘As a cohort, it has undoubtedly been a challenging time, as a year group for whom this is their first ever set of external public examinations following the implementations of teacher assessed grades for their GCSES in 2021. We are very proud of the resilience and adaptability they have had to demonstrate in securing these results. We wish them the very best for the future.’

The School will be hosting its Senior School open day on Saturday 7th October and Junior School open day on Saturday 30th September. These events are the perfect opportunity to see how your son could benefit in both their academics and individual talents at the school. To register your attendance at these open days, visit this link
