Entrance Assessments

Before joining Newcastle School for Boys, each boy is given the opportunity to come into the School and sit our entrance assessment.

Whilst the assessments vary depending on the age of the boy, the majority of boys in Years 3 and above will sit papers in English, Maths and Verbal Reasoning or a Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT). For boys entering into all year groups other than Years 3, 7, 9 and 12, they will be invited to join us for a trial day, giving them an experience of life at Newcastle School for Boys as well as the opportunity to sit their entrance assessments. For boys joining us for Year 3, 7, 9 and 12, their assessments take place at our entrance assessment days, which we run early in each spring term.

Our assessment day for September 2019 will be taking place on Friday 25th January (Year 3 and sports scholarships practical assessment) and Saturday 26th January (Years 7, 9 and 12).

The application deadline for these assessments in Friday 7th December. This wishing to sit at our assessment day should firstly submit an application form for a place at the School here.

We shall also be hosting a taster day for Year 7 applicants on Friday 25th January to really allow the boys to get to know the School. We are happy to host taster days for all applicants and these can be arranged on an individual basis for boys joining in all other year groups.

Should you wish too arrange for your son to join us at our assessment day or for a trial day, please contact our Marketing and Admissions Manager, Mrs Alex Kingsland on admissions@newcastleschool.co.uk  or call 0191 255 9303.

All places are given on a first-come-first-served basis so we advise contact at the earliest possible date to avoid disappointment.

Small class sizes of around 20

My son is extremely happy at NSB and skips into school every morning. He adores his teachers and is very proud of his school. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the school to other parents.
