Key Stage 3 Curriculum Summary

Aims

The aim of the Key Stage 3 Curriculum is to help boys develop into successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens.  It aims to stimulate them intellectually, emotionally and socially as laid out in the School’s curriculum policy, in order that they are prepared at the end of the Key Stage to make the transition to Key Stage 4 with confidence. The subjects are:

Successful learners at Key Stage 3 will:

  • have the essential learning skills of literacy, numeracy and information and communication technology.
  • understand how they learn and learn from their mistakes.
  • be able to learn independently and with others
  • know about big ideas and events that shape our world
  • enjoy learning and be motivated to achieve the best they can now and in the future.
  • show a sound knowledge of the subjects they have studied through recall of information such as facts, terms, basic concepts and answers.
  • demonstrate understanding of facts and ideas by organizing, comparing, translating, interpreting, giving descriptions, stating main ideas, grasping meaning, grouping, inferring causes, ordering and predicting consequences.
  • solve problems by applying acquired knowledge, facts, techniques and rules in a different way and use information, methods, theories in new situations.
  • demonstrate analytical skills by breaking information down into its component parts, identifying motives or causes, making inferences, finding evidence to support generalizations, seeing patterns, recognizing hidden meanings.
  • present and defend opinions by making judgments about information, ideas or quality of work based on a set of criteria
  • compare and discriminate between ideas, assessing the value of theories or presentations
  • verify the value of evidence, recognizing subjectivity and bias.
  • show creativity and resourcefulness by combining elements in a new pattern, proposing alternative solutions, drawing conclusions from a range of sources, using old ideas to create new ones and by putting together ideas or elements to develop an original idea

to work in partnership with parents to promote the welfare of all the boys and establish sound relationships based on a mutual trust.
