After several close shaves the under 14 Rugby team eventually got their first victory of the season. They did it in emphatic style, winning 58-5 against Grindon hall School. Things looked good from the kick off as some confident handling saw James Charlton use his pace to good effect to score the first of his four tries. Outstanding captain Will Mcfarland was next to score and he was instrumental in maintaining the team’s focus throughout the afternoon. Superb flanker Phil Parkinson scored next and he consistently showed why he is being considered for a promotion into the under 15 side. An improved defensive effort saw some excellent tackles from Parkinson, McFarland and winger Shota Hara. Andy Redman capitalised on some of this pressure to score just before half time to make it 28-0. The second half saw NSB try to create a more balanced team effort with players linking more often. This led to an excellent try from Will Cheesbrough and three more from Charlton. Debutant Omar Algarni performed superbly in the front row, destroying the Grindon scrum and making several barnstorming runs. There was also an excellent performance from Ian Parsons, for both teams! Final word went to Rob Howie as he raced in from fifty metres. The victory was just reward for the team who have generally worked very hard in training and have made some good improvements since the start of the year, despite several setbacks.
