The Under 10 A team picked up their football season this Tuesday with a hard-fought 1-0 win against a strong Walkergate side.

Playing in horrendously windy conditions at Goals, NSB were made to defend hard, with goalkeeper Benedikt V making some fine saves, alongside crucial tackles and blocks from Yureesh P and Matthew S at centre-back.  NSB did create chance after chance of their own in an end-to-end encounter but despite excellent movement up front from Hector A and, in his first match of the season after a broken leg, Jonathan B NSB couldn’t take the lead.  This was in no small part down to some inspired goalkeeping from the Walkergate keeper and some off-the-line clearances as NSB got more and more of the ball.

Come the second half, Harry B and Sam E started to take control of the game, playing ball after ball into the strikers and winning more and more possession in the Walkergate half.  The pressure finally told when Burbridge got an instinctive touch onto a Boneham corner, guiding the ball into the near post to secure the 1-0 win.  Defending desperately in the final five minutes, substitutes Kye C and Teppei T both played their part in winning the ball back and relieving the pressure.  An excellent team performance.

The boys were an absolute credit to the school from the start to finish of the 3 days I was lucky enough to spend with them.  We were frequently stopped by passers-by who had been moved to congratulate us on the high standard of behaviour of the boys. - Parent
