On a sunny day in Durham, NSB were straight away in the thick of the action against Cundall Manor in the first of their group games. A strong start from both teams saw opportunities hard to come by early on. Cundall's size advantage allowed them to break tackles for the first score of the game, Henry S's last ditch try saving tackle sending the boys 2-0 down at half time. The boys looked to move the ball more and were rewarded with a try of their own from Scott after a strong run through three defenders. NSB lost their opening match 4-1.

In the second game, NSB took on Choristers and found themselves 2-0 down early. As the boys found their feet and started to understand the game better they looked to pass and move the ball into space resulting in tries from Tom K and Angus S.  All square at half time. NSB continued their form in the second half and found the lead from more good passing which found Fraser R who put NSB in the lead. Some strong defence couldn't stop Choristers crossing with the last play of the game with the game ending in a 3-3 draw.

The boys saved the best till last in their group game against Terrington Hall. The boys played their best rugby in attack all day and looked to move the ball away from contact at every opportunity scoring eight unanswered tries in a dominant display, Hadyn C, Alexander C, Archie Mc, Adam R (3), Fraser R and Angus S all crossing in a 8-0 victory. The convincing win meant NSB finished second in their group on points difference.

The final match of the day saw NSB face off against the second placed team in the other group St Olaves. After some good early pressure by NSB, St Olaves scored the opening try of the game thanks to an intercept try when NSB looked more likely to score. The boys were well in the contest throughout but the good discipline of St Olaves led to them crossing the line twice more in the second half.

It was a fantastic day and the boys showed great improvement, ability and sportsmanship throughout the day. Well done boys.

The boys were an absolute credit to the school from the start to finish of the 3 days I was lucky enough to spend with them.  We were frequently stopped by passers-by who had been moved to congratulate us on the high standard of behaviour of the boys. - Parent
